About Genna: The Story Behind Coastal Core Movement

A decade ago, I was a modern dancer teaching Pilates in NYC. As I aged and endured life’s cruel realities (car accidents, winter spills, the dreaded sleeping wrong-itis, and gravity in general), I realized Pilates alone could no longer address the growing complexities my own, nor my client’s bodies face.

In my search for answers I turned to rolfing, kinesiology, and biomechanics, then to pathology, functional anatomy, motor control, and massage therapy (the list goes on).

Through my training and research, I developed a more balanced understanding of how the body moves and heals, where it can get into trouble, and everything in between.

Expert massage therapy in Port Townsend, Washington

In 2016, after many years in the boutique gym and spa circuit, I opened a private practice in Manhattan’s West Village. Post-pandemic, I relocated my studio to Portland, Maine’s Old Port for a short but oh-so-sweet stint, and in 2024, I landed in Port Townsend, partner and dogs in tow. Since settling in, I've started teaching dance lessons at The Port Townsend Ballet and am delighted to also be seeing clients out of Blackcat Pilates & Indigo Healing Arts.

“Genna has been the most effective form of therapy I have ever done. That’s saying a lot, because I’ve had a life full of injuries too. As a professional dancer, personal trainer, and aerialist I demand a lot from my body and Genna has always helped me meet those demands. I can whole heartedly say working with her changed my body for the better.”
